Hide 'N Seek (S46: Episode 8)

Was it brilliant? Was it braindead? Was it confusing? Was it shocking? Seriously...WTF was that???

Whether he's going to try and spin it as some asinine 'strategy' on tonight's episode or admit that he was, in fact, trying to help his allies and create chaos at tribal, Q tried to quit the game. And this isn't the first time. He brought it up with Jelinsky on day one, and then alluded to wanting to quit on day 10 to Kenzie. It's been in the back of his mind since he hit the beach, so it doesn’t surprise me that when things truly didn't go his way—losing control of the tribe AND betraying his number one ally (Tiff)—he thought the easiest path in the game would be to 'bow out graciously' and let the game start over. The problem with this rather selfish approach is that it wouldn’t help his allies if he up and left the game. This type of behavior is happening way too frequently in the modern game of Survivor, making me think the true "monster" out there on the island is the casting department.

Now here's where I might get a little controversial/confusing in my recap: I don’t hate Q. On paper, he's a rather fascinating player. He plays with his heart, he’s so impulsive that he rarely thinks of consequences, he has a very goofy/playful side to him (i.e., Q Skirt, Hide n Seek), and he’s very competitive in the challenges. He is bossy, and when he doesn’t get his way, he lets people know. However, this is the type of character that there's really only room for one or two of in any given season. Unfortunately, we've been blessed with a cast that has about six of these types of chaotic players, making the game very challenging to follow.

Although Q's narration of the Hide n Seek was rather arrogant and obnoxious, I gotta say I loved this montage. What a fun thing to see everyone really get into it. And what a dumb move by Hunter to hide so well in a tree and then do this thing after winning an immunity challenge hours later in the day. Too big of a target, bro!

America’s hidden billionaire(?) self-starter(?) businesswoman, Liz, had quite an episode and is starting to build a bit of a resume. She seems to be positioning herself quite well in terms of her game pace in this new era of Survivor: being absent/not taken seriously early on and then making one or two flashy moves to win you the game. So time will tell how she ends up placing!"

What's happening over at Vukelulu beach?!

Poor Tevin. He played a little too cocky with the Soda vote out, and it rubbed people the wrong way. Tevin was quite popular among players in the league this season, with Marietta, Elissa, and Philippe all losing their sole this week. Now that Tevin is gone, Seth’s tribe is down to only Charlie. Sorry for you…

Edrick impressively holds on for another week with all 5 castaways on his tribe, but Amanda S. was able to narrowly clinch the top spot, earning 68 points to his 70 points.

Still, there's a lot of game left – and it looks like we've got an auction tonight!!! Enjoy, and we’ll see ya next week!
